| Bonnie creates, directs, and produces theatre, opera, and ritual year round, and she has done so for more than 20 years. She is the co-founder and Producing Artistic Director of VORTEX Repertory Company, an alternative theatre in Austin, Texas, creating and presenting more than 250 innovative productions since 1988. She holds an MFA in Directing from the University of Texas and a BA in Theatre from the University of Kansas. She has also traveled and studied extensively in England, Europe, and Turkey. With a strong background in music, acting, and dance, as well as more than 20 years of directing experience, Cullum's specialty is bringing experimental plays, operas, and musicals to life. As a director, she has illuminated more than 50 world premieres including extraordinary epic operas, musicals, plays, and collaborative ritual theatre works. Cullum works professionally and internationally teaching theatre, acting, directing, and ritual at the University of Texas, McNeese State University, and The VORTEX, as well as workshops in Germany, Canada, and throughout the U.S. Bonnie has been honored twice as Best Director by the Austin Chronicle and received B. Iden Payne Awards for Best Director for her productions of Moby Dick and Despair's Book of Dreams and the Sometimes Radio, which toured to HERE Performing Arts Complex in New York and to McNeese State University in Louisana. She has received hundreds of nominations and more than 50 awards for her productions, as well as awards for The VORTEX venue. She was recently nominated for the prestigious Primus Prize. In 1991 she founded the Summer Youth Theatre to provide theatre opportunities for youth.
