VORTEX Repertory Company meets Austin’s social and cultural needs, employing local artists and welcoming local and tourist patrons. VORTEX is part of the larger community and reaches out to new constituencies to serve a diverse audience and connect to the world.

VORTEX is a cornerstone of Austin's Eastside community and founder of East Austin Live, a coalition of dozens of East Austin Performing Arts venues, companies, and restaurants. VORTEX was the first theatre to make its home on the Eastside, creating an example of success and perseverance for the prospering of numerous arts organizations and performance venues. VORTEX’s leadership paved the way for dozens of theatre organizations that now produce theatre regularly in Eastside venues. Dozens of art galleries and studios have blossomed in East Austin since VORTEX created an artistic anchor and safe haven for art in 1994. Austin’s Eastside Arts District rivals downtown Austin and has flourished into a place the arts can call home.

The success of The VORTEX has transformed the Manor Road corridor into a thriving hub of restaurants, foot and bike traffic, and theatre. VORTEX has served as a cultural anchor for these restaurants and the whole character of the neighborhood has transformed and revitalized since The VORTEX made an artistic home in here in 1994.

The VORTEX venue has often hosted events and fundraisers for local and international organizations.
