BareBones New Works Festival: La Femme
Dangerous Theatre with Killer Curves
Ms. VORTEX is stripping down . . . and she is inviting her friends to play at the 2nd Annual BareBones New Works Festival, a month of new plays, performance, and film coming to The VORTEX in Austin, Texas in August and September 2005. The theme for this year's festival is "La Femme". Original plays and performance written by and/or about women.

Plays featured in this year’s festival:

August 26-28 / September 01-04 8pm
Through the Plexiglas Darkly
, a play about women and the Texas penal system, written by Nancy Webb Kelly of Austin, TX. Directed by Marshall Ryan Maresca. A startling expose about some of the challenges facing women in prison.

Let Them Eat Cake is a new play by Betty Diamond of Madison, Wisconsin. Directed by Kimberley Mead and Jason Marlett. Women have a special relationship with food - come explore with us our attachment to food and how comfort and sorry is found in its companionship. Production Photos

Oneness of Two: Remembering Michael Field
, based on a true story about a writer who was more than what he appeared to be. This 19th-century popular writer rocked the literary world when it was revealed that he was actually two women. Written by Michelle Lee of Austin, TX. Directed by Paula Gilbert.

Hysteria, based on the real life of 19th-century murderess, Lavinia Fisher. By Austinite and long-time VORTEX Associate Aaron Brown. Directed by Wendy Goodwin. Venture back to a time when murder, intrigue, and orgasms improved women's emotional health.

September 22-25 8pm
Birth
, a testimonial play about childbirth in America, was written by Karen Brody of Takoma Park, Maryland. Directed by Le Easter. This is the "Vagina Monologues" of Birthing. VORTEX is pleased to offer this play in conjunction with the Lamaze International Conference in Austin.
